“Each year I meet a number of extraordinary young people who are experiencing the transforming power of the gospel personally and hunger for intensive theological training, mentoring and peer support to become effective instruments of Christ’s power to renew our culture. We’ve been praying for the leadership and congregational support of this Fellows Program for a long time.” — Dr. Timothy Keller
Overview of the Gotham Fellowship
In September 2008, Redeemer committed to equip our young adults for gospel leadership in the world. With the Gotham Fellowship, we have initiated an intensive, top tier training program that engenders commitment from its participants and our congregation.
Through the Gotham Fellowship we provide the theological, spiritual, and relational foundations required for meaningful and sustainable integration of faith and work. The Fellowship integrates three primary elements to further the social, cultural, and spiritual renewal of New York City:
Gospel Worldview Development: At the core of our program is the commitment to consider how the gospel impacts every area of life. We develop a worldview that draws from the deep resources of the Reformed tradition and is sufficiently robust to engage the diverse and complex culture of NYC.
Spiritual and Personal Development: The Fellowship fosters personal, spiritual and professional development through daily devotions and relationships with pastoral leaders and mentors from the congregation.
Community Formation: The Fellowship is a community of peers, from diverse backgrounds and vocations, who are committed to each others’ spiritual growth and calling to serve the common good of the city.
The Gotham Fellowship is a nine-month program (similar to an Executive Education program) for 24 young adults who are employed full-time in New York City and have at least two years of working experience. Our typical class comprises 12 men and 12 women between the ages of 24-30 working in fields including law, finance, education, government, medicine, and the arts. Program Details and Commitment
The Fellowship begins Labor Day Weekend and finishes Memorial Day Weekend. During these nine months, the Fellows meet two hours a week to discuss the extensive weekly reading of major texts from various eras of church history. Daily devotionals unite the group through guided scriptural and devotional readings. Monthly Saturday gatherings provide in-depth training and city excursions. Fellows are matched with mentors from the Redeemer community, and they meet together for one to two hours a month. Three retreats – Labor Day, mid-winter and Memorial Day weekends - focus on personal reflection and spiritual formation.
The Fellows tuition fee of $2250 helps offset program expenses. We are seeking donors who can enable us to provide financial aid, as needed. Applications will be accepted in the spring for cohorts beginning the following September. Fellows will be selected by an admissions committee from applicants who best demonstrate 1) commitment to the City, 2) spiritual maturity, and 3) ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the Program.
